Spring Home Improvement Budget

Spring Home Improvement Budget
Spring has arrived once again. Now is the perfect time to assess any damage from the brutal winter. This way you can budget for your repairs and find deals to save money.

Winter damage comes in many forms. Has your old roof suffered from heavy snowfall? Perhaps you have trees that have suffered wind damage and are littering your yard. You probably aren't alone.

Roofing contractors, tree trimmers, and other home improvement professionals are slow in winter but become very busy come spring. It is, therefore, a good idea to determine your needs early and hire these people before they get busy. Not only will you get your project done sooner, but you may still catch some winter savings.

Large projects need a budget. New roofing runs in the thousands of dollars. You need to check your budget to determine from where the money will come. Plus, you have time to pick up extra income if need be. It helps to list all the projects that you need and want to accomplish then prioritize them.

Many people will have weathered winter without needing any major repairs. Spring brings with it a renewed desire to tackle outdoor projects and beautification. Perhaps you want to paint or garden. Knowing now what supplies you will need helps you to watch for sales on these products.

Some typical supplies to watch for are paint, mulch, soil, garden seeds, and garden tools. Take an inventory of last year's supplies. This way you will know what you have to avoid purchasing duplicates. You may find that your tools only need a little sharpening to work this season as well. Seeds from last year are often still viable to plant.

Lawn maintenance is another area to consider. Check your tractor battery to see that it still works. It may only need recharging before mowing season begins. Did you get the blades sharpened and the tractor serviced last year? If not, it pays to do it early this year. Tractor service shops quickly get busy and can be slow to return tractors when mowing season starts. Save yourself money and aggravation by getting your tractor serviced very early.

Factoring home repairs into your budget can save you the stress of funding an unexpected repair. Determining your needs and prepping ahead will make those home improvements run more smoothly. Who knows? You might find that you can do more projects since you had the foresight to buy your supplies on sale.
